Lost Americana Tour
Nadine and I went to Berlin to see MGK’s Lost Americana tour. I did not bring a proper camera. In hindsight I could have.
Apple · iPhone Air · 6mm · ƒ/1.6 · 1/30sWe took the EV to Berlin which meant a 2 1/2h drive and one recharge to be able to go fast and play safe. The charging network between Leipzig and Berlin is very strong and you pay by debit/credit card, no provider apps or charging apps mandatory. This comes with a small premium but it is so much more accessible. But let me tell you, it took aaaages to get the car charged up. I do not know why the chargers are suddenly limited to ~60kw where at least ~150kw are possible. Charging needs to become a generally available and highly reliable commodity to have an even stronger EV adoption. Did you see Skoda launched a 26 thousand euro EV called Epiq? EVs are more affordable than a few years ago.
We had a vegan Burrito at East Side Mall before the show, which was forgettable at best.
Security and waiting times at the venue were efficient, and arriving 15 minutes before the opening act we were at our seats sharp on time. The security controls were subtle, they did not check pockets but had sort of body scanners. They said beforehand no professional cameras were allowed, but I am certain I could have brought the Sony RX100 VII, it fits in my pockets and with some arguing I can convince it does not count as a professional camera.
The show was great and had a thorough choreography. I acknowledge for myself that I enjoy both types of shows, it’s less about small venue vs big venue shows, but about shows with a strong stage and story concept, and in contrast bands crushing through their setlist and setting everything on fire, such as Neaera, La Dispute, Darkest Hour to name a few.
I do not mind that MGK did different types of music in the past, yet I pretty much prefer not to hear songs from that era. Having said that, it was less than 10% of the 2h show he dedicated to this time span of his career. Most songs played were from Tickets to My Downfall and it is my favorite album of his, and I think it came out of nowhere at the time.
We arrived at 3am in the morning and got up at 6am with the kids. Which means I am already done with the day before it even started - it’s going to feel like a very long one. We are very lucky to have Nadine’s parents often eager to help, and their support opens up more and more opportunities like this for us. Nights out together like this are just really nice.
