Upgrade
Upgraded from an iPad Air 13" and a Mac mini (M2) as my usage centered more and more around photo editing and agentic coding. The Mac mini feels too static and the iPad too limiting.
SONY · DSC-RX100M7A · 30mm · ƒ/4.0 · 1/25sI got a 2025 MacBook Air with slightly bumped specs over the base model. Nadine got one last year, so I know what I was getting into, and I have been using Airs on and off during my time at Delivery Hero. I was already moving between Photos and Photomator for importing and post-editing pictures. This worked okay on the iPad, but for blog post writing and generating draft previews with Hugo I needed macOS. The MacBook Air solves this nicely.
The Mac mini has been migrated to a home server and I realized the shipped app in macOS for Screen Sharing is superior to Apple’s 89€ paid App Store version! I can manage the Mac mini remotely via the Screen Sharing app.
The iPad Air 13" I am going to sell. I had high hopes when they first announced the larger Air with Smart Keyboard support. Unfortunately Apple never realized the full potential of iPadOS. An easy-to-access virtualization layer that allows you to run OCI-compatible containers would have been sufficient for most development use cases.
I am establishing habits with the MacBook Air:
- I ditched 1Password for Apple Passwords, the migration was straightforward.
- I dropped Google Chrome in favor of Safari.
- I skipped installing Docker and use OrbStack.
- I added Claude as my AI assistant, triggered by double-pressing the
optionkey.
